Janet Yellen officially became a candidate for the post of head of the U.S. Federal Reserve – her candidacy is supported by the administration of President Barack Obama. Ms. Yellen's main competitor in the battle for the chairmanship, an economist Lawrence Summers, who stands for the tightening of monetary policy, withdrew his candidacy in mid-September.
